PUNCTURE REPAIRS & TYRE DAMAGE
Puncture Repairs
Auto Pneu Service offers a puncture repair service which can be combined with our other services.
About half of all flat tyres caused by a puncture can be repaired safely and cheaply without the need for a replacement tyre. If you get a flat tyre, don’t worry because APS is fully equipped to repair the puncture. All punctures are repaired to comply with the British Standard (BSAU159).
We can professionally repair tyres as long the puncture is within the central three-quarters of the tyre, is not more than 3mm and the tyre shows no sign of internal damage. All tyres will be removed from their rims to be thoroughly inspected to ascertain their suitability for repair.
We will never carry out sidewall or shoulder repairs. We will not repair tyres with:
-
illegal tread depth – below 1.6mm across the central ¾ of the tyre tread throughout the entire circumference in the area in the picture above
-
run flat damage – breakdown of the tyre’s structural integrity
-
secondary damage – caused by the injuring object
-
ageing/deterioration of tyre rubber
-
bead damage
-
exposed cords
-
faulty/poor previous repairs
Tyre repair can extend the life of a tyre considerably if the puncture is caused by debris such as screws or broken glass. If the puncture is in the centre portion of the tread then a good quality plug will ensure it operates safely for the duration of its natural life-cycle.
To help the chances of your puncture being repairable, do not drive on it when it is flat – driving for even a few hundred metres on a flat tyre can damage it and makes it un-repairable. It causes the sidewalls of the tyre to be weakened making a repair unsafe. So as soon as you notice it is flat, either put the spare wheel on, or contact us.
